Things I Love Thursday: Oct. 14, 2010

Waffle Shots: This is such a fun idea! It's a waffle iron that has interchangeable plates so you can make regular waffles as well as these waffle cups that you can fill with yummy goodness. I think this would be a lot of fun for brunch.

And speaking of waffles, here's How to Spice up a Plain Waffle: I especially like the idea of a waffle cook-off! Maybe with waffle shots?

The Problem with Oatmeal (And How to Eat it Cold): It's getting chilly out there and I plan on eating a lot more oatmeal in the morning (steel cut, of course). The more recipes, the better, I say!

Have You Ever Heard of JoJos?: I love that this poll even exists! When I was in middle school, I'd ride over with my friend to one of the local grocery stores, get about a pound of them from the deli, and enjoyed salty, yummy potatoes and our incredible metabolisms that allowed us to do this far too often. I also like the comments that say it might be an Oregon thing because no one told little Alaskan me about that. They are fabulous and the seasoned chips at Holman's are a great substitution.

Food Cart Pod Listings: Look at how many we have! Basically, when anyone asks me why I like Portland, I say "Two words: food carts." What else is there to say?

Meet & Eat: Alton Brown: Last week I was loving on the Serious Eats interview with Ted Allen. Alton Brown is my original food geek love and I mention him up and down this blog because he's, well, amazing.

And if you love Alton like I do, you'll be pleased to hear about full episodes of Good Eats streaming on Hulu!

What's Up with Bees?: Well, now we know! Turns out a fungus and a virus are working together to wipe out honey bee colonies. While I don't like that this is happening, I love that we're closer to finding out how to fix this. Knowing what you're up against makes it so much easier to solve something. And I love honey, so save the honey bees!

(cutest. tomatoes. EVER! This might help me deal with the lack of tasty tomatoes over the winter)

I'm also loving: sweet potato pancakes from Gravy; hidden little bars that aren't so hidden; introducing people to my favorite restaurants; orange juice with sparkling water; leftovers that are even better the next day; surprise birthday cupcakes; still thinking about garlic vs. cheese; hearing all about my mom and dad's adventures in homegrown produce; twice baked potatoes with broccoli; fall flavors like cinnamon and nutmeg; the fact that it's hot toddy weather again.

What are you loving this week?
